On May 2, the Seoul Central District Court assigned the newly indicted case of former President Yoon to the Criminal Agreement Division 25 (Presiding Judge Ji Guyoun).
Criminal Division 25 is currently handling the rebellion leader case against former President Yoon, and it appears that the two cases will be merged. The prosecution is reportedly requesting the court to consolidate the cases for trial, as the facts of both cases are identical. This panel of judges is also in charge of trials involving Kim Yonghyun, former Minister of National Defense, and Cho Jiho, Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, among other martial law-related figures.
Previously, on May 1, the Special Investigation Headquarters for Martial Law (headed by Park Sehyun, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office) indicted former President Yoon on additional charges of abuse of power. This latest indictment was made possible because former President Yoon lost his presidential immunity from prosecution after leaving office.
Former President Yoon is accused of conspiring with former Minister Kim and others on December 3 of last year to declare martial law, abusing his authority by ordering soldiers and police to mobilize armed forces to the National Assembly and the National Election Commission, and directing them to blockade, occupy, or restrict access to these facilities?actions considered to be without legal obligation. Earlier, in January of this year, the prosecution indicted former President Yoon on charges of leading a rebellion and placed him under arrest.
