Exhibitions and Experience Programs to Be Held
Park Sieun and Jin Taehyun Appointed as Promotional Ambassadors
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 2nd that, together with the International Council of Museums Korea Committee and the Korean Museum Association, it will host the "2025 Museum·Art Museum Week" through May 31, with the participation of more than 260 museums and art museums nationwide.
This year’s event is themed "Changing Communities and the Future of Museums," as selected by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The event will expand the participation of regional museums to promote balanced development of local culture. As in the previous year, travel programs linking major local cultural spaces with regional museums and art museums will also be operated. In addition, outstanding cultural heritage from across the country will be discovered and actively promoted.
At the opening ceremony to be held at Savina Museum of Contemporary Art at 2:00 p.m. on the 2nd, Minister Yoo In-chon will attend to celebrate the start of the "2025 Museum·Art Museum Week" and encourage museum and art museum professionals. During this event, actors Park Sieun and Jin Taehyun, a married couple, will be appointed as promotional ambassadors for the "2025 Museum·Art Museum Week."
This year’s Museum·Art Museum Week will feature: ▲ "Museum×Meet," which selects, promotes, and exhibits collections from 50 museums and art museums nationwide; ▲ "Museum×Enjoy," which offers exhibitions and experiences on the theme of changing communities and the future of museums (31 museums selected through open competition, 26 programs); ▲ "Museum×Stroll," a travel program with professional guides visiting unique cultural sites and museums/art museums across six regions, held 25 times; and ▲ the 19th Korea Museum International Academic Conference, with 17 academic societies participating under the theme of "Changing Communities and the Future of Museums."
"Museum×Meet," newly established under the theme "Firsts and Beginnings," aims to discover and share the stories behind the representative collections of 50 museums and art museums nationwide. This year, the historical backgrounds and acquisition processes of these collections will be promoted. Next year, special exhibitions utilizing these collections and artist talks will be supported to further share their stories. In 2025, museum and art museum trips will be organized in six regions?Yangpyeong and Paju in Gyeonggi, Gyeongju in North Gyeongsang, Daejeon, Jeonju in North Jeolla, and Jeju?with a total of 25 sessions, each recruiting about 30 participants.
In collaboration with local cultural and arts institutions, nine exhibitions and 17 educational and experiential programs will be presented. Notable examples include: ▲ Gyodong Art Museum (Jeonju, North Jeolla) will hold the special exhibition "Flexible Space: Contemporary Dialogue" in partnership with Jeonju Cultural Foundation and Palbok Art Factory; ▲ Beomeosa Seongbo Museum (Geumjeong, Busan) will deliver messages of conflict and harmony through the special exhibition "Nevertheless, Great Compassion"; ▲ Onyang Folk Museum (Asan, South Chungcheong) will explore the meaning of "Suseon (Virtuous Influence)" through the exhibition "Tailor Shop in the Museum III: Bodyguard," highlighting the wisdom and aesthetics of ancestors embedded in traditional lifestyles; ▲ Savina Museum of Contemporary Art (Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul) will run the special exhibition "House of Ecology? Hanok" along with an exploration program linked to the nearby Eunpyeong Hanok Village and the Bukhan Mountain Han Culture Experience Special Zone.
In addition, the National Museum of Korea will host the "Imagination Museum" on May 5, in celebration of Children’s Day, operating an experience and promotion center linked to the "2025 Museum·Art Museum Week." Programs will include: ▲ creating custom museum MBTI badges; ▲ commemorative photo shoots and social media certification; ▲ an activity where participants bury and excavate "Museum×Meet" collection keyrings like cultural heritage artifacts.
