Shares of USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) suppliers are rising in response to the SK Telecom (SKT) hacking incident.
As of 9:41 a.m. on May 2, Ubivelox was trading at 8,700 won, up 1,220 won (16.31%) from the previous trading day.
At the same time, Xecure was trading at 4,760 won, up 200 won (4.39%), and Iruon was trading at 1,568 won, up 63 won (4.19%).
According to industry sources, the listed companies supplying USIMs to SKT include Ubivelox and Xecure. Iruon, a company specializing in mobile communication solutions and value-added services, manufactures wireless communication USIM chips used for Near Field Communication (NFC).
In relation to the recent hacking incident, it is reported that the number of users eligible for USIM replacement reaches 25 million, combining SKT's 23 million subscribers and 1.87 million subscribers of budget phone services using the SKT network. As a result, confusion continues due to a shortage of USIM supply.
