SK Telecom, which had rebounded briefly following the government's suspension of new subscriptions, turned downward again just one day later.
As of 9:41 a.m. on May 2, 2025, SK Telecom was trading at 53,200 won on the Korea Exchange, down 1,100 won (2.03%) from the previous session.
On the previous day, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had issued an administrative order requiring SK Telecom to completely halt the recruitment of new mobile subscribers until the shortage of USIM cards is resolved. The ministry also demanded that the company establish and implement a plan to compensate affected users. In addition, it instructed SK Telecom to review measures such as waiving penalties, providing compensation for damages, and easing the burden of proof for victims, as requested by various consumer groups.
