Ahn Cheolsoo: "Impeachment Addict Lee Jaemyung and Speaker Woo Wonsik Who Allowed Impeachment Motion Must Resign"

"Another Impeachment Begins for Lee Again," Criticism Raised
Calls for Resignation Directed at Speaker Woo Wonsik

Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, urged Woo Wonsik, the Speaker of the National Assembly who allowed the impeachment motion against Lee Jaemyung, the leader of the Democratic Party, and Choi Sangmok, the former Acting President and Minister of Economy and Finance, to resign. On May 2, Ahn posted on social media, stating, "Impeachment addict candidate Lee Jaemyung should immediately step down from the presidential race," and pointed out, "Since last night’s plenary session of the National Assembly, another impeachment for Lee Jaemyung has begun." He continued, "To his faction, Lee Jaemyung is more than a figure of a primitive religion," and added, "Impeachment is nothing more than an offering, stacked one after another, on the altar for Lee Jaemyung."

Ahn further stated, "The reason I, who worked for a third party for ten years and decided to unify three years ago, did so was because I knew Lee Jaemyung was a criminal suspect." He criticized, "Lee Jaemyung, who denies the judiciary, paralyzes the executive branch, and even tramples on the legislative branch, is a criminal suspect. He is the 'main enemy' threatening the liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea." He then emphasized, "If things are already this bad, what will happen to Korea if he becomes president? He will pardon his own side’s crimes even by changing the law, and will create crimes for the opposing side even if it means rewriting the law."

Additionally, Ahn continued his criticism of Woo Wonsik, the Speaker of the National Assembly, who is leading the impeachment efforts. Regarding the frequent impeachments, he asserted, "The people will never stand by and watch," and insisted, "And Woo Wonsik, the very embodiment of shamelessness, must also resign." He further questioned, "Is the National Assembly the personal property of Speaker Woo Wonsik? Is that why you are in that position? The people will judge everything as it is."

Previously, on May 1, regarding the recent Supreme Court ruling, Ahn commented on social media, "The rule of law in the Republic of Korea is alive," and also stated, "The truth cannot be hidden." He went on to say, "Now, candidate Lee Jaemyung should voluntarily step down from the candidacy and faithfully participate in the remaining trials," adding, "Our people do not want a president who is a criminal suspect. That is the final duty for the people."
