On May 1, as the Democratic Party of Korea attempted to process an impeachment motion against Choi Sangmok, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance, during a plenary session of the National Assembly, Choi announced his intention to resign immediately after the motion was introduced.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance stated in a press message that "Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sangmok expressed his intention to resign at 22:28."
This announcement came only a few minutes after the impeachment motion against Choi was introduced at the plenary session of the National Assembly.
Earlier in the day, upon learning that the impeachment motion led by the Democratic Party of Korea would be introduced at the plenary session, Choi reportedly told those around him that he would resign before the impeachment process.
The impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister Choi was passed by the Legislation and Judiciary Committee at around 9 p.m. that night, led by the Democratic Party of Korea.
