Impeachment Bill Against Shim Woojeong
Expected to Be Reported at the National Assembly Plenary Session on May 1
The Democratic Party of Korea submitted an impeachment bill against Prosecutor General Shim Woojeong on May 1.
According to the National Assembly's legislative information system, the Democratic Party submitted the impeachment bill in the name of all 170 of its members on this day.
The impeachment bill states that "Prosecutor General Shim participated in the unconstitutional and illegal declaration of martial law by former President Yoon Sukyeol, as well as in the armed insurrection involving the mobilization of martial law troops and police."
The bill also includes the allegation that "by causing a meaningless extension of the detention period for a president who committed insurrection, Shim not only led to the court's decision to cancel the detention, but also halted the active duties of the Prosecutor's Office Martial Law Special Investigation Headquarters by abandoning an immediate appeal against the cancellation and by ordering the release of the main suspect in the insurrection case."
The Democratic Party plans to report the impeachment bill at the plenary session on the same day, during which the supplementary budget bill is also scheduled to be handled.
