Final Briefing Session for the World Green Growth Forum:
Sharing Event Plans and Reviewing Interdepartmental Cooperation
Forum to Be Held May 14-15
Under the Theme "Green Transition for the Future: Finding a Path Amidst Challenges"
Pohang City is accelerating its preparations for an international event that will strengthen its MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry capabilities and position the city as a leader in global climate leadership.
On May 1, the city held a final briefing session for the World Green Growth Forum (WGGF) in the main conference room at City Hall, conducting a comprehensive review of preparations for the main event, which will take place at Lahan Hotel Pohang from May 14 to 15.
During the briefing, participants shared plans for event operations, session composition, and the status of invitations to domestic and international speakers. They also reviewed interdepartmental cooperation on all aspects of on-site operations, including participant movement, transportation, accommodation, and safety measures.
In addition, the city discussed strategies to enhance Pohang’s urban image through the forum and to attract future international conferences linked to the event.
Held under the theme "Green Transition for the Future: Finding a Path Amidst Challenges!", the forum will present Pohang’s vision to transform from an industrial city to a sustainable future by advancing its industries based on green technologies.
In particular, through collaboration with international organizations such as the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, the forum aims to propose a model for local cities to take a proactive role in global climate and environmental agendas.
Pre-registration for the forum is available on the official website until May 7. More than 300 domestic and international experts and citizens are expected to attend and engage in in-depth discussions on green growth, carbon neutrality, and strategies to address climate change.
The city plans to use this forum as a springboard to establish Pohang as a leading global city for green growth. Following the opening of the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center in 2027, the forum will be developed into a regular event to create a range of ripple effects, including attracting industrial investment, expanding global networks, and boosting tourism.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "This forum will mark a turning point for Pohang, moving beyond its identity as a steel-centered industrial city to become a sustainable green growth city. Building on our preparations and efforts, we will do our utmost to successfully host the forum, accelerate Pohang’s green growth, and expand our global network so that the forum can reach audiences worldwide."
