Collision at Unmarked Crosswalk Without Traffic Lights
Police Investigate Based on CCTV Footage and Other Evidence
A man in his twenties died after being hit by a truck while riding a bicycle across an unmarked crosswalk in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. The driver has been booked without detention and is currently under investigation.
The Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on May 1 that they have booked truck driver A, a man in his forties, without detention on charges of causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, and are investigating the case.
Driver A is accused of hitting B, a man in his twenties, with his vehicle while B was riding a bicycle across a crosswalk in the first lane of a two-lane one-way road in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, at around 10:20 p.m. on April 30. The accident occurred at a crosswalk without traffic lights. B was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately died.
Police have determined that A was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license. They are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on CCTV footage and the driver's statement.
