Jangheung County Residents' Day Held: "Rising as a Nobel Literature City"

Over 1,000 Residents and Affiliates Attend, Pledging Commitment to Regional Development
Governor Kim Sung: "We Will Create a Jangheung That Prospers for a Long Time"

Jangheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim Sung) announced on May 1 that it held a ceremony commemorating the 55th County Residents' Day in the main conference hall of the County Residents' Hall on April 30.

This year, the 'Jangheung County Residents' Day·Borim Cultural Festival', which is held every two years, was originally planned as an outdoor event. However, due to the early presidential election, the event was scaled down to an indoor ceremony.

The commemorative event, attended by more than 1,000 people including local residents and those with ties to the county, began with celebratory performances by the Jangheung Choir, Munhwagonggam Eum, and the Art Troupe Gyeol. The program continued with a national pledge, recitation of the County Residents' Charter, presentation of the County Residents' Award, progress report, commemorative address, congratulatory speech, performance, and a group singing of the county residents' song.

The 2025 Jangheung County Residents' Award in the regional development category was presented to Hwang Wolyeon (age 70). Hwang, as the head of the Musan Gim Promotion Committee, persuaded fishermen to successfully cultivate Musan Gim using traditional methods without using mountains, thereby contributing to the production of eco-friendly seafood, increasing fishermen's income, and enhancing the competitiveness of the seaweed industry.

At the ceremony, there was also a performance where participants chanted the county administration goals and sector-specific slogans. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to regional development by shouting slogans such as "Mother's Embrace Jangheung," "Nobel Literature City Jangheung," "Let's Go Safe Jangheung," "Jeongnamjin Jangheung, Land Where Unification Begins," and "Cultural, Artistic, and Tourism Prosperity Jangheung," all reflecting the vision for the region.

Governor Kim Sung stated, "I would like to thank the residents and those with ties to Jangheung who have joined forces for the development of our county," adding, "By combining our residents' unity with our distinguished history and culture and pristine natural environment, we will create a Jangheung that prospers even longer and more vibrantly."
