Kim Kyoungil, Mayor of Paju City, announced on May 1 that in celebration of Family Month in May, the city will increase the recharge limit of the local currency PajuPay from the existing 700,000 won to 1,000,000 won.

This measure will be implemented temporarily for the month of May and is one of Paju City's proactive local economic revitalization policies aimed at supporting local small businesses and increasing consumption benefits for citizens.

Mayor Kim stated, "We will continue to introduce various revitalization policies so that PajuPay can become a driving force for neighborhood businesses," and added, "I hope May will be a month where we share love more abundantly, more joyfully, and more warmly."

With this increase, if a citizen recharges 1,000,000 won, a 10% incentive will be added, allowing them to use a total of 1,100,000 won. In addition, the 30% income tax deduction benefit will remain unchanged.

PajuPay can be issued and recharged through the Gyeonggi Local Currency app or at NH Nonghyup Bank and agricultural cooperatives, and can be used at over 15,000 affiliated merchants in Paju City, including restaurants, hospitals, academies, and beauty salons. However, its use is restricted at businesses with annual sales exceeding 1.2 billion won, such as large supermarkets.

Since last year, Paju City has expanded the issuance scale of local currency to the highest level nationwide. For this initiative as well, the city will invest 10 billion won from its own budget without national funding and plans to allocate an additional 19 billion won through the second supplementary budget.

Mayor Kim emphasized, "Local currency is more than just a means of consumption; it is an important link that sustains the local community," and added, "We will continue to actively support PajuPay so that it can be a warm source of strength for both citizens and merchants."
