Minister Oh Youngju: "We Will Fully Support Global Expansion"
On May 1, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that four domestic AI startups have been selected for CB Insights' "AI 100 2025" (Global AI Top 100 Companies), one of the most prestigious corporate evaluation agencies in the global artificial intelligence (AI) market. The selected companies?Nota AI, Dinotisia, Upstage, and Twelve Labs?have received key startup support policies from the ministry, including the "Super Gap Startup 1000+ Project."
CB Insights is a private company that provides market information on corporate and investor activities through a business analytics platform with a global database. Each year, it comprehensively evaluates unlisted AI companies worldwide based on business performance, technological capabilities, and investment status, selecting 100 AI companies. In the past five years, only about one domestic AI startup per year has been selected for the "AI 100," but this year, for the first time, four companies have been chosen, marking the largest entry into the global market to date.
To foster the growth of AI startups and strengthen the ecosystem, the ministry has newly launched the "AI Core Sector and Fabless Startup Strategic Project" this year. This initiative supports technological advancement in high-growth areas such as small language models (sLLM), as well as demand-based collaboration in major industries such as manufacturing and content, where economic and social outcomes can be readily achieved. In addition, the ministry is continuously promoting the "AI Super Gap Challenge," which creates achievements such as new market opportunities by combining the products of global conglomerates like LG Electronics and Qualcomm with the innovative capabilities of AI startups, aiming for global scale-up.
In particular, to further strengthen the global expansion of deep tech startups in the ten super gap sectors?including AI, system semiconductors, and bio?the ministry will host the "2025 Super Gap Startup Renovation Day" on May 13. During the event, it plans to share the results of previous support policies and announce new policies to support global scale-up.
Minister Oh Youngju stated, "I am proud that domestic AI startups have been selected as innovative leaders who will drive the advancement of AI technology in the global market," and added, "We will continue to fully pursue related policies so that outstanding domestic AI startups can enter the global market and gain recognition for their world-class technological capabilities."
