Unclaimed Remains Transferred to National Sacheon Memorial Cemetery
Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office Vows Continued Respect for All Veterans
The Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Lee Namil) announced on May 1 that it had located the remains of 10 national merit recipients, who had been left without family and interred in unclaimed sections of public charnel facilities in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions, and laid them to rest at the National Sacheon Memorial Cemetery.
The remains that were laid to rest this time were transferred from Busan Yeongnak Park to the National Sacheon Memorial Cemetery on April 28 with a police escort and were temporarily placed there. The joint funeral ceremony was held on April 30 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Memorial Hall at the National Sacheon Memorial Cemetery, presided over by Lee Namil, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office.
This event was organized as part of the realization of "first-class veterans affairs," ensuring that the nation continues to honor those who devoted themselves to the country but were left unclaimed due to the absence of family. The solemn ceremony was attended by over 100 people, including military units, students, and local residents.
The 10 merit recipients who were laid to rest will now remain at the National Sacheon Memorial Cemetery. This discovery was made through a comprehensive survey of the remains of national merit recipients interred in unclaimed sections of public cemeteries nationwide.
Lee Namil, Director of the Busan Regional Veterans Affairs Office, stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that those who dedicated themselves to the nation receive respect and honor from the country and its people until the very end," and added, "We will continue to realize first-class veterans affairs, leaving no one in the blind spots of veterans support."
