Referred to Prosecution on Charges of Murder and Attempted Murder
Kim Sungjin (33), who committed a knife rampage at a mart in Mia-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, killing one woman, has been handed over to the prosecution.
On May 1, Gangbuk Police Station announced that Kim had been detained and referred to the prosecution on charges of murder and attempted murder.
On April 22 at around 6:20 p.m., Kim tore open the packaging of a knife displayed at a mart near Mia Station and swung it at people, leading to his arrest at the scene.
A woman in her 60s who was attacked died, while another victim, a woman in her 40s, was injured.
After the crime, Kim smoked a cigarette in a nearby alley and voluntarily reported himself to the police.
It was found that at the time of the incident, Kim was wearing a patient gown from a nearby orthopedic clinic and had been hospitalized at the facility.
On April 29, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "Due to the brutality of the crime, the seriousness of the harm, sufficient evidence, and the need to disclose information for public interest and crime prevention, it is necessary to reveal Kim's face, name, and age," and released his personal information.
