On May 1, Gyeonggi Province released a promotional video for the "Positive Parenting Challenge," which was produced to prevent child abuse and support the spread of a positive parenting culture.
Positive parenting refers to a parenting method that respects children as independent individuals and is based on mutual communication, understanding, and trust between parents and children.
The promotional video features Gyeonggi Province's public relations ambassador, comedian Kim Daehee, and shows him practicing one happy positive parenting challenge each day for a month, such as hugging children for 30 seconds, trimming their nails, and taking family selfies.
Gyeonggi Province plans not only to promote the video to residents through YouTube, G-Bus TV, the provincial government promotion monitors, and the Gyeonggi Province Children's Expo, but also to distribute it to related organizations in the province, including city and county governments, child protection agencies, and comprehensive childcare support centers.
Kwon Moonjoo, head of Gyeonggi Province's Child Care Division, stated, "Eighty-six percent of child abuse perpetrators are parents, and eighty-three percent of incidents occur in the home," adding, "Respecting children as they are and fostering mutual communication and understanding between parents and children is the starting point for preventing child abuse. We will do our best to create a positive parenting environment."
Meanwhile, in 2025, Gyeonggi Province is operating a response infrastructure that includes 26 child protection agencies and 44 shelters for abused children, strengthening child abuse prevention education and promotional projects, and implementing its own initiatives to identify children at risk, such as the "Asking About Children's Well-being" program.
