Selected for Seoul's 'Care SOS Specialized Project'
Announcing a Qualitative Leap in Care Services
Seongbuk-gu in Seoul (Mayor Lee Seungro) has been selected as a final recipient in the '2025 District Specialized Care SOS Service' project, organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and will strengthen its care service system. As a result, the district has secured a city budget of 97 million won and will officially launch the 'Seongbuk-type Specialized Care SOS Service' starting this month.
This specialized project aims to enhance the quality of life for care recipients by adding customized services that reflect local characteristics to the existing Care SOS services. The existing Care SOS program has provided support for residents in need of care due to sudden illness or accidents, focusing on five main services: temporary home care, accompaniment support, residential convenience, meal delivery, and short-term facility use.
Seongbuk-gu will introduce two new services: a home exercise service and a welfare equipment rental service. The home exercise service offers personalized one-on-one exercise sessions by experts who visit the home. The welfare equipment rental service allows residents to borrow up to three items, such as wheelchairs and beds, from a selection of seven types of equipment free of charge for up to three months.
This specialized service is provided completely free of charge to basic livelihood security recipients, the near-poor, and households with an income at or below 100% of the median income. Eligible recipients must meet certain criteria, such as being discharged after surgery or illness. Residents wishing to use the service can apply starting in May by visiting their local community center or through a phone consultation. Once an application is received, dedicated Care SOS personnel will determine eligibility and connect the applicant to the appropriate service.
Mayor Lee Seungro stated, "Through this specialized service, we will continue to expand our customized care system so that residents can return to daily life in a healthier and safer manner," adding, "We will further strengthen the community care safety net."
