Songpa District to Support Fire Safety Facilities in Multi-Family Housing Parking Lots

Songpa District (District Mayor Seo Gangseok) announced that it will take the lead in electric vehicle safety by promoting the "Support Program for Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Facilities in Multi-Family Housing."

With the recent mandatory installation of charging facilities, the number of charging stations is increasing, and concerns about electric vehicle fires are growing. In response, the district will strengthen electric vehicle fire safety facilities for multi-family housing complexes equipped with EV charging stations in underground parking lots.

As of the end of March 2025, a total of 5,635 electric vehicles were registered in Songpa District, and 5,472 EV charging stations were being operated at 350 locations.

In March, the district conducted a demand survey among apartment complexes in the area. This month, it secured a total budget of 170 million won, including 120 million won in municipal funding, and will officially launch the program to subsidize 50% of the installation costs for fire safety facilities related to charging stations.

The program targets multi-family housing complexes with 30 or more households that have installed EV charging stations in underground parking lots. The amount of support will vary by the number of parking spaces in each complex, with a maximum subsidy of up to 14.28 million won per complex.

The eight supported items are: ▲early-response sprinkler heads ▲upward direct water supply devices (fixed type) ▲thermal imaging cameras ▲flame detection cameras ▲AI video analysis cameras ▲OBD-based pre-diagnostic integrated monitoring systems for battery anomalies ▲fire early detection systems utilizing existing CCTV ▲EV battery temperature monitoring systems.

Complexes wishing to apply should prepare and submit the required documents to the Multi-Family Housing Management Team of the Songpa District Housing Management Division by May 16, 2025. More information can be found in the notices section of the Songpa District Office website.

Previously, in February, the district became the first in the nation to establish an "Integrated Management Platform for EV Charging Facilities," systematically managing all electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the area. The platform enables precise identification of the installation status of charging facilities by building, aboveground and underground locations, as well as the status of fire safety facilities, focusing on the safety management of electric vehicles.

Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "If an electric vehicle fire occurs in an underground parking lot of a multi-family housing complex, it is difficult to extinguish and the scale of damage can quickly spread, so prevention is crucial." He added, "Through this program, we will ensure that as many complexes as possible benefit, thereby creating a safer residential environment. We will continue to prioritize residents' safety and do our utmost to prevent electric vehicle fires and ensure safety management."
