Gwangju City has been selected as the top institution in the "2025 First Quarter Local Finance Rapid Execution Evaluation" organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. As a result, Gwangju secured a financial incentive of 640 million won in special grants (300 million won for the city and 340 million won for the five autonomous districts).
At the beginning of this year, the city established a "Rapid Execution Ongoing Monitoring System" led by the Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs, with all employees actively participating in financial execution through execution status report meetings and on-site inspections of large-scale projects. Through these efforts, the city executed 2.6538 trillion won out of the first quarter target of 2.495 trillion won, achieving 106.4% of the target and earning recognition as the top institution.
Despite nationwide challenges such as economic uncertainty and a sluggish domestic market, the city was able to exceed its target rate. This achievement is attributed to Gwangju's proactive fiscal management and expanded fiscal spending aimed at the early recovery of the local economy.
For the second quarter, the city plans to continue operating the Rapid Execution Task Force, ensuring systematic budget execution and management, and frequently monitoring the status of fiscal execution to achieve its goals.
On April 30, Deputy Mayor Kwangwan Ko stated, "Gwangju City is working as one team with 76 organizations and groups, including economic associations and industries, to realize the 'Gwangju Economy All Together Chakhchakhchak (Good Consumption, Good Finance, Good Jobs)' initiative and is making every effort to revitalize the local economy." He added, "We will continue to pursue rapid execution of local finances with a sense of urgency to help the regional economy overcome its crisis."
Meanwhile, in the evaluation of autonomous districts, Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu were selected as top institutions, while Dong-gu, Seo-gu, and Nam-gu were recognized as excellent institutions.
