In celebration of the 30th anniversary of its Corporate Safety Research Institute, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance launched the expert network 'Social Safety Net The LINK,' aiming to go beyond accident prevention consulting services for existing corporate clients and strengthen disaster prevention and response capabilities across society as a whole.
The Social Safety Net The LINK is a network that brings together the capabilities of experts from the private sector, government, and academia on a single platform to respond to the ongoing threat of large-scale disasters. Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance plans to operate this as an open platform, with the goal of spreading disaster response knowledge through the voluntary participation of various companies and organizations.
During the panel discussion, in-depth conversations were held on topics such as changes in the social environment due to climate change, the current state of disaster science and technology in Korea and abroad, and integrated crisis management governance models for large-scale accidents. Participants included Jung Sujong, Director of the Climate Tech Center at Seoul National University; Hong Junguk, Director of the Disaster Science and Technology Institute at KAIST; Kim Taeyoon, Director of the Science and Technology Policy Institute at Hanyang University; and Choi Taeyoung, Professor at Sejong Cyber University. Professor Choi emphasized that linking the capabilities of different organizations is key to effective accident prevention.
In a welcome speech, Lee Munhwa, President of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, stated, "This event is an important first step toward building a social safety net," and added, "I hope that, while fulfilling our corporate social responsibility, the opinions discussed here will lead to real change."
Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance plans to use this event as a starting point to actively operate an open platform based on public-private-academic cooperation. The company also plans to establish a more systematic disaster response system.
