SKT Yoo Youngsang: "100% Compensation for Damages Even Without USIM Protection Service Subscription"

'USIM Protection Service' Surpasses 10 Million Subscribers
Promise to Provide Protection Services for Digitally Vulnerable Groups

SK Telecom has announced that it will provide 100% compensation to users who suffer damages due to USIM information leaks, even if they are not subscribed to the company's 'USIM Protection Service.' The USIM Protection Service is a service by SKT that prevents new activations using leaked USIM information.

Yoo Youngsang, CEO of SKT, attended the hearing of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee on the 30th and stated, "I promise here today that we will compensate for any damages, even if users are not subscribed to the USIM Protection Service."

When Park Junghoon, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, questioned whether users who are not subscribed to the service would be ineligible for compensation in the event of illegal USIM cloning, citing the phrase 'SKT takes 100% responsibility for damages to USIM Protection Service subscribers,' CEO Yoo responded, "That phrase was intended to encourage users to subscribe to the USIM Protection Service," and added, "We will revise the wording."

Additionally, CEO Yoo promised services to protect the USIMs of digitally vulnerable groups. He said, "I make a commitment here today to provide USIM Protection Services for seniors aged 65 and over, as well as for digitally vulnerable groups," and added, "We are also calling digitally vulnerable users individually to offer assistance."

Since the SKT USIM information leak incident, the number of USIM Protection Service subscribers has been increasing by 2 to 3 million per day. As of this morning, the number has surpassed 10 million. In addition, SKT is preemptively detecting and blocking cloned phones using the 'Fraud Detection System (FDS)' for abnormal authentication attempts. In the middle of next month, SKT will launch 'USIM Format,' a service that partially changes USIM information to make it different from the leaked data.
