"Tuesday Humanities" Enjoys Enduring Popularity for 11 Years... Daegu Office of Education Offers Book Reading and Author Lectures

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kang Eunhee) held the first lecture of the 2025 "Tuesday Humanities" series on April 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Haengbokgwan Hall, with approximately 500 faculty and staff members in attendance.


"Tuesday Humanities," the flagship humanities lecture program of the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, began in 2015 for parents, students, and the general public, and marks its 11th year in 2025. The program is conducted by having participants read a designated book and then attend a lecture by the author on the day of the event, encouraging humanities-based communication.

This year, the program will be held six times from April to December, covering fields such as philosophy, politics, literature, history, and science.


The first event of the year, the "April Special Lecture," featured Choi Jinseok, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Sogang University and author of "The Skill of Life, Zhuangzi." He shared philosophical insights on personal growth as a mature individual with inner depth, based on the ideas of Zhuangzi.


Upcoming lectures include: on May 27, Kim Youngmin, Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University and author of "A Light Confession"; on June 24, novelist Kim Aeran, author of "One of the Two Is a Lie"; on September 30, Joo Kyungchul, Professor of Western History at Seoul National University and author of "The Historian of Sunday"; on November 25, Lee Jungmo, former Director of the National Gwacheon Science Museum and author of "Brilliant Extinction"; and on December 23, poet Lee Byungryul, author of "The Wind Blows, I Like You" and "The Sea Is Well." Each lecture is scheduled to be held on the respective dates.


Kang Eunhee, Superintendent of Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "Many people have shown great interest in 'Tuesday Humanities,' which has been running for 11 years. We will continue to provide meaningful opportunities to gain wisdom for life through the humanities in this ever-changing era."
