Busan Office of Education Connects Students' Hearts Through Music

"Maeumitda" Program Enhances Emotional Recovery
and Awareness of the Value of Life

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) is actively working to support students' psychological and emotional recovery, as well as their healthy school life. To this end, the office is running the life-respect program "Maeum(mind)itda(music)" from April to November, which incorporates music.

This program was established not only to support students in crisis situations such as self-harm or suicide, but also to help all students achieve psychological stability and improve their ability to adapt to school life. It will be held a total of 60 times at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools.

The program is conducted in a customized class format by a professional team specializing in music therapy from local universities, who visit the schools directly. During the classes, the supervising teacher is also present to ensure student safety and support participation.

Participating students express their emotions and experience empathy and respect for others through live performances using instruments such as keyboard, cello, violin, and clarinet. In addition, activities such as "Maeum Balloon," "Maeum Treasure Island," and "Maeum Connecting," tailored to each school level, are also carried out.

The program is expected to serve as an opportunity for positive change by enhancing students' awareness of the value of life, self-acceptance, and sense of community. After the event, the effectiveness of the program will be reviewed, with the expectation that its impact on the school environment will be even greater.

Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "Music, as an artistic medium, will serve as a warm bridge connecting students' hearts," and added, "We will continue our multifaceted efforts to support students' psychological and emotional recovery and growth."
