0% Sugar, Sweeteners, and Fat Content
Increased Survival Rate of Probiotics in the Intestines
On April 30, hy announced the launch of its sugar-free fermented milk product, 'Yakult XO (EXO)'.
Yakult XO is the first zero-sugar fermented milk introduced under the Yakult brand. The product name 'EXO' combines the meanings of 'X' for sugar-free, '0' for zero, and 'Extra Old' for long-term aging.
As its name suggests, Yakult XO has two distinguishing features. First, it contains 0% sugar, sweeteners, and fat. It also has only 10 Kcal per 100 mL, making it easy to consume without concern.
In addition, rather than simply removing sugar, hy used its proprietary technology to reduce sugar content. The new product incorporates 'LF-7', a fermentation method in which lactic acid bacteria are cultured for seven days. The patented lactic acid bacteria 'HY2782' consume all the natural sugars in the raw materials, resulting in zero sugar content. This method also preserves the unique sweet and tangy flavor characteristic of fermented milk.
Long-term culturing also increases the survival rate of lactic acid bacteria in the intestines. In fact, the intestinal survival rate of lactic acid bacteria cultured for a week using the LF-7 method reaches 48.3%, which is about five times higher than on the first day of culturing. Each bottle of Yakult XO contains 50 billion CFU (colony-forming units) of five patented strains of lactic acid bacteria.
Choi Youngtaek, head of hy's Dairy Product CM Team, stated, "'Yakult XO' embodies the sense of responsibility hy upholds as Korea's No. 1 probiotics company," adding, "We will focus on strengthening our research and technological capabilities to help expand the fermented milk market."
