GS Caltex Holds 'Tech Exchange' for Employees to Accelerate Digital Transformation

First Event Held at Gangnam Headquarters

GS Caltex has organized regular exchange meetings for its employees as part of its digital transformation efforts. The company invites external experts to give lectures focused on real-world industrial applications and aims to foster a culture of interdepartmental collaboration.


On April 30, GS Caltex announced that it held its first Tech Exchange at its headquarters in GS Tower, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to enhance the digital capabilities of its employees. The Tech Exchange covers a wide range of technologies across industries, including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, mobility, cloud computing, and digital twin. Starting with this event, GS Caltex plans to hold the exchange regularly every month, with the goal of generating practical, work-related ideas and spreading a culture of collaboration between departments.

At the event, Lee Kyungrok, CEO of Braincrew, a company specializing in custom AI solutions, delivered a lecture titled "AI Agent Trends 2025." Lee introduced the principles of AI agent technology, which understands user intent, makes autonomous decisions, and performs tasks independently. He predicted that AI agent technology, with its proactive problem-solving capabilities, will automate complex tasks and lead the global market in 2025. During the networking session that followed, employees exchanged questions and insights about each department's work areas and actively discussed the potential for applying AI agent technology in their day-to-day operations.


In addition, GS Caltex is nurturing experts through its in-house training program, Digital Academy. Since 2023, the company has run annual programs to train low-code developers?who can build applications with minimal coding?and data analysts from the field. This year, GS Caltex has also focused on generative AI education. To date, the company has produced approximately 220 in-house digital experts.


He Sehong, President of GS Caltex, has consistently emphasized that digital transformation must spread throughout the organization through the voluntary participation of all employees. At a recent executive workshop, He highlighted, "An organizational culture shaped by employee participation is the key competitive strength that drives sustainable growth," and stressed, "Such a culture enables the active adoption and practical utilization of digital technology."


GS Caltex is actively implementing digital transformation cases discovered internally at its Yeosu plant, which is at the core of its value chain. The number of cases applied from the field reached around 40 in 2023 and approximately 140 in 2024. Representative examples include AI-based CCTV, as well as inspections using drones and robots.
