The Sacheon City Council in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 30th that it held a press conference in front of the Space Aviation Agency building, strongly urging the government to host the '1st Space Aviation Day Ceremony' in Sacheon.
On this day, the council emphasized that "Space Aviation Day" is more than just a symbol, highlighting its significance as an event crucial to the future of South Korea's space aviation industry and to balanced regional development.
Additionally, the council stated that, as May 27, 2024 marks the historic opening of the Space Aviation Agency in Sacheon, the first ceremony must be held in Sacheon to commemorate this milestone.

Furthermore, the council argued that holding the inaugural ceremony in Sacheon, the starting point of South Korea's space aviation industry and a city symbolic of national achievements, is historically and regionally justified.
In particular, the council pointed out that the decision to hold the event in the Seoul metropolitan area is causing great disappointment among local residents and stakeholders, and warned that this would undermine the symbolic and historical significance of Sacheon.
The Sacheon City Council also explained that hosting the ceremony in Sacheon would strengthen the status of Sacheon as South Korea's space aviation capital, revitalize the local economy, promote balanced development, and attract national interest and participation.
Kim Kyuhun, Chairperson of the council, stated, "This is a crucial decision for establishing the identity of South Korea's space aviation industry and presenting a vision for its future," and requested, "Please ensure that the 1st Space Aviation Day Ceremony is held in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province."
