Ranked Second Nationwide in the Sharing Trail Development Evaluation!
Geochang County, South Gyeongsang Province, announced on April 30 that the barrier-free sharing trail on Gamaksan Mountain was selected as an excellent institution in the 2024 Green Fund Support Project evaluation.
The Green Fund Support Project is operated by the Korea Forest Welfare Institute using lottery funds to expand green infrastructure in vulnerable areas. The project is managed through annual open calls and an evaluation system.
In this year's evaluation, Geochang County received a total score of 94.1 points and was rated "Excellent" among 15 projects in the sharing trail category, ranking second nationwide and earning the Excellence Award (Director of the Korea Forest Welfare Institute Award).

With a total project cost of 3.8 billion won, the 3.5-kilometer barrier-free sharing trail on Gamaksan Mountain was built along the mountain's summit perimeter with a slope of less than 8 degrees and no stairs. It is the highest perimeter trail in the country (over 900 meters above sea level) and is also nicknamed "Gamag Godo" (Gamaksan High Trail).
The trail is easily accessible by car to the summit and, with no stairs or steep sections, is an open tourist destination that anyone can easily enjoy regardless of age or gender. It takes about one hour at an average adult walking pace. The entrance to the barrier-free sharing trail is on the right side of the path from the parking lot to the summit, and the trail forms a loop that returns to the parking lot after circling the summit of Gamaksan Mountain.
County Governor Koo Inmo said, "Since the opening on November 22 last year, many people have visited the barrier-free sharing trail on Gamaksan Mountain. There are four observation decks and three photo zones where you can enjoy views of the three major national parks?Jirisan, Gayasan, and Deogyusan?as well as Hapcheon Lake. I hope you will visit with your family, loved ones, or friends to experience both healing and relaxation."
Meanwhile, Gamaksan Mountain, where the barrier-free sharing trail is located, is famous for its wind turbines and purple Aster chrysanthemum flowers. During last year's autumn Aster Chrysanthemum Festival (Kkotbyeol Trip), 330,000 people visited the area.
