Kyungil University Delivers 20 Million Won in Wildfire Relief to Uiseong County... 173 Volunteers Support Recovery Efforts

Kyungil University (President Hyun Tae Jung) delivered 20 million won in relief funds to Uiseong County on April 29, 2025, to support the recovery from wildfire damage in North Gyeongsang Province and to assist affected residents.


This donation was raised through the voluntary participation of Kyungil University faculty and staff, with the aim of helping Uiseong County residents quickly return to their daily lives after suffering losses from the wildfire.

Kyungil University joined this donation effort to share in the pain of the local community, based on the spirit of caring for and looking after neighbors. The funds collected will be used for wildfire recovery efforts and emergency livelihood support.


In addition, a total of 173 people?including 45 faculty and staff members and 128 students?expressed their intention to participate as volunteers to assist with recovery in the affected areas. They will help with restoration work at the disaster sites in coordination with relevant agencies.


Kyungil University has a special relationship with Uiseong County. In January of last year, the university established the Uiseong Campus of the 'Gyeongbuk Future Life University,' a lifelong education support project by the Ministry of Education, through a memorandum of understanding, and is currently operating regular degree programs for adult learners.


Furthermore, to foster curling talent, Kyungil University signed an agreement with Uiseong County, known as the home of curling, and in 2021 established the only specialized university curling team in the country. The team went on to win a silver medal at the curling event of the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games.


President Hyun Tae Jung of Kyungil University said, "I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the residents of Uiseong County, who suffered the greatest losses from this wildfire, and I hope they can return to their daily lives as soon as possible." He added, "As a university that grows together with the local community, we will continue to fulfill our responsibilities and roles."
