Accelerating "Population Policies for All Life Stages"
On April 29, Gijang County announced that County Head Jeong Jongbok has joined the "Relay Campaign to Raise Awareness about Population Issues," which is organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare.
This campaign is a social declaration aimed at creating a "Korea where children are happy, youth nurture hope, and the elderly find fulfillment." It began in October last year with the participation of Lee Kiil, the First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, and has since spread nationwide, focusing on local governments.
County Head Jeong participated in the campaign after being nominated by Suyeong District Head Kang Seongtae, contributing to the formation of a social consensus on the issue of population decline and supporting efforts toward a sustainable local community. In addition, he plans to use this campaign as an opportunity to raise public interest in the county's population policies and to accelerate the implementation of more effective policies.
Currently, Gijang County is implementing various policies to address low birth rates, including support for housing loan interest for multi-child households without homes, postpartum care cost support, childbirth grants, and childcare subsidies.
The county is also actively pursuing youth-targeted policies to help young people settle in the region, such as temporary special support for youth monthly rent, support for youth certification exam fees and interview allowances, as well as entrepreneurship support and employment linkage programs.
To respond to the increasing elderly population, the county is simultaneously providing jobs for seniors, strengthening social welfare center programs, and supporting health management projects, thereby promoting balanced population policies across all life stages.
Going forward, the county plans to continue expanding various policies to actively address the issue of population decline and to make Gijang a place where everyone wants to live and stay.
Jeong Jongbok, the head of Gijang County, stated, "Population issues are not a challenge for a specific generation alone, but a task that we all must consider and solve together. I hope this campaign will serve as an opportunity for a shift in perception among our residents."
Jeong Jongbok, the head of Gijang County, nominated Lee Soongeol, the head of Ulju County, as the next participant in the relay campaign.
