Kim Hyungmi, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced on April 29 that the "Ordinance on Supporting Projects for the Discovery and Promotion of Historical Figures," which she proposed at the 330th extraordinary session the previous day, was passed by the Planning and General Affairs Committee.
This ordinance provides the legal basis necessary to implement projects aimed at discovering the great achievements of historical figures who have contributed to Gwangju Seo-gu and widely promoting their noble intentions.
In addition, it aims to inherit and develop the spirit and values of these historical figures, thereby enhancing the pride and self-esteem of Seo-gu residents and providing lessons for future generations. The core contents of the ordinance stipulate that projects may include the discovery and development of historical figure materials, the production of commemorative monuments, and educational and promotional activities for their commemoration.
Kim stated, "Through this ordinance, I hope that we can actively discover the historical figures of Seo-gu, Gwangju, carry on their legacy, and have a positive impact on Seo-gu residents."
