Doosan Enerbility Expands 'Nuclear Cooperation' in Canada

Selected as One of Nine Priority Suppliers for Candu Energy
First Non-Canadian Company... Ongoing Partnership
Cooperating on CANDU Heavy Water Reactor Facility Upgrades

Doosan Enerbility has been selected as one of nine priority suppliers for Candu Energy, a Canadian nuclear power company. Doosan Enerbility is the only overseas company among the selected suppliers, with all others being Canadian. The two companies have maintained a cooperative relationship since collaborating on nuclear power plant equipment production in Romania last year.

On April 29, Doosan Enerbility signed a priority supplier agreement with Candu Energy for nuclear business cooperation. The signing ceremony, held at Lotte Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, was attended by Gary Rose, President of Candu Energy, Jongdu Kim, Head of Nuclear Business Group at Doosan Enerbility, and other representatives from both companies. This agreement was initiated as Candu Energy selected nine companies as priority suppliers out of approximately 2,000 partner firms. Candu Energy holds the original technology for the Canadian Deuterium Uranium (CANDU) heavy water reactor and is responsible for related design, supply, and services.

Through this agreement, Doosan Enerbility will be able to expand its participation in the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operation of CANDU heavy water nuclear power plant projects worldwide led by Candu Energy. Currently, a total of 31 CANDU-type nuclear power units are in operation in Canada, South Korea, Romania, China, and Argentina. Meanwhile, in 2023, Candu Energy unveiled the 'CANDU MONARCH,' a new 1,000MW-class reactor, as part of its market strategy.

President Rose stated, "CANDU technology has already been successfully applied on four continents worldwide. We are pleased to welcome Doosan Enerbility as a key partner to strengthen our supply capabilities for CANDU projects globally, including in Asia." Kim, Head of the Nuclear Business Group, commented, "Doosan Enerbility being selected as Candu Energy's first overseas priority supplier demonstrates the competitiveness of the Korean nuclear power industry."

Doosan Enerbility announced that, based on this agreement, it aims to participate not only in Candu Energy's heavy water reactor facility improvement projects but also in new nuclear power plant projects. Last year, Doosan Enerbility received orders from Candu Energy for feeder pipes for Unit 1 of the Cernavoda plant in Romania and for four units at the Pickering nuclear power plant in Canada.
