Suseong Webtoon Secures Government Project for Autonomous Driving Robot Development

KOSDAQ-listed company Suseong Webtoon announced on April 29 that it has secured a government project worth 1.6 billion KRW under the SME Technology Innovation Development Project (Export-Oriented, Strategic Type) for the "Development of an Autonomous Heavy Construction Material Transport Robot System to Overcome Unstructured and Time-Varying Environments."

The goal is to develop an autonomous driving robot system capable of safely and efficiently transporting heavy materials, even in complex and unstructured construction site environments. The company expects that by demonstrating an automated transport solution tailored for construction sites, it will also contribute to creating a safer working environment for site workers.

Suseong Webtoon has a track record of developing and supplying more than 20 types of logistics equipment and various specialized Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) platforms, based on over 40 years of accumulated technology and experience in the logistics transport equipment manufacturing sector. The company is collaborating with robotics specialist Rebotics (formerly Team Robotics). Rebotics is developing an autonomous forklift robot applicable to existing brownfield environments, leveraging a research team composed of master's and doctoral-level researchers from Seoul National University and KAIST. The company utilizes multi-sensor-based autonomous driving technology and environment recognition-based autonomous operation technology.

Through this project, the two companies plan to jointly develop key technologies, including: a robust hardware platform for heavy material transport; autonomous driving technology that enables stable operation even in unstructured environments; a dynamic obstacle detection and real-time map updating system; and integrated multi-robot control technology. The focus is on enabling robots to autonomously navigate routes and reliably perform tasks, even in complex and frequently changing construction site environments.

By carrying out this project, Suseong Webtoon aims to further enhance productivity and safety at construction and logistics sites, while also strengthening its technological competitiveness in the autonomous heavy material transport robot market. After project completion, the company plans to actively pursue overseas market entry, focusing on North America, Europe, and Japan.
