Criticized Due to Father-in-Law's Stock Manipulation Allegations

Singer and actor Lee Seunggi revealed that his father-in-law has been additionally indicted for illegal activities and expressed his intention to sever ties with his in-laws. On April 29, Yonhap News quoted a statement from Lee Seunggi's side, reporting that Lee Seunggi intends to cut off relations with his in-laws. In the statement released that day, Lee Seunggi said, "Although my father-in-law was previously fined in a retrial for illegal acts that had continuously been raised against him, he has now been indicted again by investigative authorities for similar illegal activities. I am devastated." He added, "This incident has irreparably damaged the trust within our family," and continued, "After much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to sever ties with my in-laws."

Until now, Lee Seunggi had faced public criticism due to his father-in-law being accused of stock price manipulation, but he had consistently refuted these reports, claiming that the news of his in-laws' criminal acts was clearly false. However, it appears that his stance has changed following the recent Supreme Court ruling and the additional indictment. He stated, "I deeply regret having spoken carelessly without fully reviewing the relevant matters," and added, "I sincerely apologize to the victims who may have suffered due to my hasty judgment and empathize with their pain."

Previously, in 2023, Lee Seunggi married Lee Dain, the daughter of actress Kyeon Miri, and they have one daughter. Kyeon Miri's remarried husband, Lee Mo, was indicted on charges of artificially inflating the stock price of a KOSDAQ-listed company he managed from November 2014 to February 2016, then selling shares obtained through a paid-in capital increase for a profit of about 2.37 billion won. He was accused of making false disclosures, such as claiming investment from Hong Kong-based capital at the time of the paid-in capital increase, to boost the stock price and gain unfair profits. Subsequently, in the first trial in January 2018, Lee was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of 2.5 billion won, but was acquitted in the appellate court the following year. However, in June of last year, the Supreme Court overturned the acquittal and remanded the case to the Seoul High Court, with the court determining that some of the disclosures constituted "unfair acts" that could cause losses to investors.
