Applied to Ball Cover... 30% Less Carbon Emissions
Longer Contact Time When Hitting... Enhanced Performance
SK Chemicals has applied its bio-based material 'Ecotrion' to golf balls. The material is considered environmentally friendly because it emits 30% less carbon dioxide compared to petrochemical-based materials.
On April 29, SK Chemicals announced that Ecotrion has been applied to Dunlop Sports Korea's global golf brand Srixon's '2025 Gstar Series' golf balls. Through this collaboration, both companies have achieved results that not only enhance golf ball performance but also align with the trend of value-driven consumption. Ecotrion is made from 100% bio-based ingredients and is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared to the production process of petrochemical-based polyols.

In addition, Ecotrion possesses excellent properties such as elasticity, resilience, and abrasion resistance, making it suitable for use in products like urethane and spandex. According to Dunlop Laboratories, the contact time when hitting the collaborative golf ball increased by up to 18% compared to the company's previous products. This golf ball is also chosen by world-class tour professionals such as Brooks Koepka and Hideki Matsuyama, as well as by Choi Kyungju and other players on the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour.
SK Chemicals plans to apply sustainable bio-based materials like Ecotrion to a wide range of sports and leisure products beyond golf balls. The company aims to expand the potential applications of bio-based materials within the sports industry. Kim Eungsoo, Head of the Green Materials Business Division at SK Chemicals, stated, "Bio-based materials are one of the most powerful alternatives to petrochemical materials," adding, "We will continue to collaborate with various brands using Ecotrion."
A Dunlop Sports Korea representative said, "Recently, there has been growing global interest in sustainability, and the golf industry is also making various efforts, including carbon reduction." The representative added, "The introduction of Ecotrion is also part of our efforts to contribute to the formation of a circular society by adopting sustainable raw materials."
