SK to Hold Board Meeting Next Month
to Approve SK Materials as Subsidiary
SK Ecoplant is moving forward with a plan to make SK Materials its subsidiary.
According to industry sources on April 29, SK is expected to convene a board meeting as early as next month to review and approve a plan to transfer SK Materials as a subsidiary under SK Ecoplant.
Previously, in December of last year, SK Materials incorporated SK Materials Airplus (now SK Airplus). This move is seen as an effort to strengthen SK Ecoplant's comprehensive semiconductor services and secure financial stability by successively integrating semiconductor businesses with stable profits, while also preparing for an initial public offering (IPO).
SK Materials is a materials technology specialist company acquired by SK Group from OCI in 2016. Its main business is the production, sales, and provision of integrated operation services for key materials required in semiconductors, displays, and batteries.
Last year, SK Materials recorded sales of 358.4 billion KRW and an operating profit of 41.1 billion KRW. It has subsidiaries such as SK Resonac, which develops and produces semiconductor etching gases; SK Trichem, a manufacturer of organometallic compounds used for thin film deposition in semiconductor device manufacturing processes; and SK Materials Performance, which develops photo materials essential for semiconductor circuit patterning. The incorporation of SK Materials is expected to improve SK Ecoplant's performance.
However, an SK representative stated, "We are reviewing various options to enhance corporate value, but nothing has been concretely decided yet."
