Gyeonggi Province has newly selected 36 works this year through its Public Facility Excellent Design Certification.
The Excellent Design Certification system is a design accreditation program that Gyeonggi Province has conducted annually since 2009 to improve the quality of public design and to introduce public facilities suitable for public spaces.
This year, Gyeonggi Province received a total of 123 products, including street lights and benches, directly developed by related companies and others, through a public contest held in March.
Gyeonggi Province conducted a first-round online screening and a second-round in-person evaluation based on criteria such as conformity to public design guidelines, practicality, and aesthetics, and ultimately selected 36 products in 17 categories.
Products newly selected in this certification include: a pergola utilizing solar energy, a smart shade structure, a bench applying universal design, outdoor exercise equipment for cognitive health of the elderly, and an electric kickboard stand.
Facilities that receive the Excellent Design Certification are awarded a certification plaque and certificate, and may use the Gyeonggi Province certification mark 'GGGD' (Gyeong-Gi Good Design) for three years. In addition, certified products are posted on the Design Gyeonggi website and are recommended for priority use during public design reviews or projects.
Meanwhile, companies that did not pass this year's certification may apply for the 'Gyeonggi Design Clinic' to be held in the second half of the year. If selected for Design Clinic support, companies can receive one-on-one customized design development and process improvement consulting from experts designated as 'Design Doctors.' Among the products that completed the 2024 Design Clinic, seven were selected as certified products this year.
