Reopening of the Aging Seogyo Art Experiment Center on April 30 After Seismic Reinforcement and Remodeling
Performance Hall, Exhibition Room, Hanbok Rental, and 24-Hour Restrooms for Visitor Convenience
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsu) will reopen the aging Seogyo Art Experiment Center on April 30, 2025, after remodeling it into the 'Red Road Art Experiment Center,' a complex cultural and artistic space that connects local culture, the arts, and tourism.
To mark the reopening, the center's name was changed from 'Seogyo Art Experiment Center' to 'Red Road Art Experiment Center' to reflect the unique cultural and artistic characteristics of the Hongdae area and its identity as a special tourist district.
The 'Red Road Art Experiment Center' was originally the Seogyo-dong Community Center, built in 1989 and remodeled for use by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture since 2009 under a free-use agreement. After the contract period ended, management of the facility returned to Mapo-gu.
However, due to the deterioration of the facility, seismic reinforcement and remodeling were necessary. After approximately one year of renovations, the center will reopen to the public under the new name 'Red Road Art Experiment Center' on April 30, 2025.
The 'Red Road Art Experiment Center' consists of two floors above ground and one basement level. The basement will serve as a performance hall for small-scale plays and performances. The first floor will function as an exhibition space, including the 'Red Road Gallery.' The second floor will be used for offices, including lecture rooms and meeting rooms.
For inquiries regarding space rental and usage, reservations can be made by calling the Red Road Art Experiment Center's administrative office.
In addition, a Hanbok rental shop will be operated to promote local tourism and traditional culture. The restrooms will be open 24 hours a day to enhance convenience for local residents and tourists.
Mapo-gu plans to use this reopening as an opportunity to support the 'Red Road Art Experiment Center' in establishing itself as a complex cultural and artistic space where artists, local residents, and tourists can all come together, going beyond a simple art venue.
Park Kangsu, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "This reopening is not just a simple remodeling, but a rebirth that embodies the cultural identity of Mapo," adding, "We will work to further expand the cultural and artistic base of the Hongdae area."
