Seongdong-gu Conducts Intensive Safety Patrols to Address Residents' Concerns Over Ground Subsidence

Intensive Safety Patrols and Post-Inspection Management to Prevent Ground Subsidence Near Roads and Construction Sites Starting in May

Seongdong-gu Conducts Intensive Safety Patrols to Address Residents' Concerns Over Ground Subsidence

Seongdong-gu (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will conduct intensive safety patrols on roads and sidewalks near construction sites within the district where there are concerns about ground subsidence.

In response to the recent nationwide incidents of ground subsidence and the increase in civil complaints about simple road damage, such as potholes, following the thaw season, the district plans to carry out safety patrols on roads and sidewalks to proactively detect any warning signs and take preemptive action.

This safety patrol will focus on: ▲ damage to roads and sidewalks ▲ damage around storm drains and manholes ▲ damage to sidewalk blocks, pedestrian paths, and curbstones ▲ and other potential safety hazards. The inspections will be conducted jointly by citizen auditors specializing in civil engineering and architecture, along with the relevant departments.

Any safety hazards identified during the inspection will be immediately reported to the relevant department and addressed through the Smart Inconvenience Reporting App on-site, and will be thoroughly managed until final resolution. In addition, if any early signs of ground subsidence are detected, they will be promptly reported to the responsible department and relevant agencies for immediate action.

Starting in May, the district will use ground-penetrating radar joint inspections to prevent ground subsidence accidents in advance by inspecting roads, areas around large-scale construction sites, and roads with old water pipes. The district also plans to repair approximately 2.2 kilometers of old sewage pipelines, which are a major cause of ground subsidence.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "As residents' concerns about safety accidents are increasing, we intend to conduct proactive safety inspections," and added, "We will continue to remain vigilant and thoroughly check for safety hazards to make Seongdong-gu an even safer place."
