KCCI to Hold "Korea AI Policy Forum" on May 9... Discussion on Korea-Specific AI Strategy Choi Taewon, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yonhap News

This forum has been organized to examine the impact of AI on the economy, society, and industry, and to explore directions and tasks for Korea to advance as one of the three leading AI nations, the so-called "G3." The event is particularly significant as it takes place about eight months after the launch of the National AI Committee, which deliberates on overall AI policy, and follows the recent announcement of follow-up measures to strengthen the nation's AI capabilities. It is expected to serve as an opportunity for both the public and private sectors to jointly review the direction of AI policy.

The forum will focus discussions on three key areas expected to create added value within the AI ecosystem: building AI data center infrastructure, enhancing industrial AI competitiveness, and developing a Korea-specific large language model. Issues such as energy supply, talent development, and data collection, which are necessary for the smooth operation of these three areas, will also be addressed. As a result, the discussions are expected to cover virtually all aspects of the AI ecosystem.

The event will feature opening remarks by Choi Taewon, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (and Chairman of SK Group), and a keynote speech by Yeom Jaeho, Vice Chairman of the National AI Committee (and President of Taejae University). This will be followed by a total of three panel discussions, where experts representing the government, academia, and industry will share their views on topics such as strategies for a Korea-specific AI ecosystem, the roles of companies and the government, creating success stories through manufacturing AI, and ways to secure the competitiveness of K-large language models amid the global AI supremacy race.
