The statement specified that the ceasefire period would last from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 10.

May 9 is a public holiday in Russia commemorating the victory in World War II. This year, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory, the holiday period in Russia will begin on Thursday, May 8.

The Kremlin stated, "All military actions will be prohibited during this period," and warned, "Ukraine should follow this example, and if the Ukrainian side violates the ceasefire, the Russian military will respond appropriately and effectively."

President Putin also unilaterally declared a temporary 30-hour ceasefire during the Easter period on April 19. However, during that time, both Russia and Ukraine accused each other of violating the ceasefire and launching attacks.
