Jeonnam Province Deploys Civilian Divers, Recovers Two More Bodies
Three Crew Members Remain Missing... Families in Tears
The search for the missing crew members from the "Seokyung Ho" accident off the coast of Yeosu, which resulted in casualties due to an unexplained sinking, has come to a regretful end 77 days after the incident.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 28th, the official search for the missing persons from the 139-ton class trawler, Je22 Seokyung Ho, was concluded after the final search operation involving divers was carried out the previous day.
Seokyung Ho sank on February 9, at a depth of 83 meters, 37 kilometers east of Geomundo, Yeosu. Of the 14 people on board, 5 died and 4 were rescued.
After the accident, 5 crew members?3 Koreans, 1 Indonesian, and 1 Vietnamese?remained missing. Responding to the desperate pleas of their families, Jeonnam Province allocated 1 billion won from its reserve funds to conduct a private deep-sea search operation.
During the search, the bodies of two crew members were recovered near the wheelhouse on the 16th and 20th, but ultimately, three crew members were never returned to their families.
Jeonnam Province stated, "We did our utmost under difficult circumstances, but we deeply regret not being able to find all the missing persons," and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
