Jangseong County to Host 33rd Jeonnam Disabled Sports Competition from April 30

Fierce Competition in 21 Sports... Around 10,000 Visitors Expected in Jangseong

Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province is opening a stage for unity that transcends the boundaries between people with and without disabilities.


On April 28, Jangseong County announced that it will host the 33rd Jeonnam Disabled Sports Competition from April 30 to May 2. This is the second large-scale sports event to be held in Jangseong, following the conclusion of the 64th Jeonnam Sports Festival on April 21. It is the first time that the Disabled Sports Competition is being held in Jangseong.

The competition will begin with a billiards match at Munhyang High School and will feature 21 sports, including gateball, goalball, lawn bowls, soccer, and volleyball. A total of about 10,000 people?including approximately 2,800 athletes and officials and around 7,000 spectators?are expected to visit Jangseong.


The opening ceremony will take place outdoors at Jangseong Yellow City Stadium at 4 p.m. on April 30. The pre-ceremony performances will feature a nongak performance and a percussion show by the Jangseong Gugak Association, while the congratulatory stage will include trot singers Sung Minji and Kwak Younggwang, as well as Park Seojin, the winner of "Hyeonyeokgawang 2," who will heat up the atmosphere.


During the competition, there will also be side events such as a rehabilitation experience booth for people with disabilities and a promotional center for eco-friendly local agricultural products. The closing ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on May 2 at Hong Gil-dong Gymnasium.


Kim Hanjong, the county governor, said, "I hope this event will become a true venue for unity between people with and without disabilities," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that everyone can participate without inconvenience."
