Major Exploration and Local Content Experience
The School of Humanities Content at National Mokpo University (President Song Hacheol) recently announced on April 28 that it had conducted a "One-Day Mokpo Field Trip" for first-year students to explore their majors and better understand local content.
The School of Humanities Content consists of three majors: Cultural Content Studies, Historical Content Studies, and Cultural Heritage. A total of 74 first-year students participated in this field trip. Professors Jeon Hyeongyeon (Cultural Content Studies), Choi Sunghwan (Historical Content Studies), and Oh Changhyun (Cultural Heritage) led the program, which allowed students to directly experience major cultural resources and content sites in the Mokpo area.

The field trip course included key historical and cultural landmarks representing the region, such as Mokpo Modern History and Culture Space, Sihwa Village, and the National Maritime Museum. At each site, students engaged in hands-on learning focused on the current status and practical cases of local content utilization.
In particular, Professor Choi Sunghwan, an expert in Mokpo's historical content, personally provided explanations at the heritage sites to help students' understanding. Group research activities further enhanced the effectiveness of field-based learning. In addition, curators who are alumni of National Mokpo University and are currently working at Mokpo City Hall and the National Maritime Museum welcomed the students, offering not only on-site heritage explanations but also practical advice regarding their majors and career paths, adding further significance to the event.
Based on their field trip activities, participating students are expected to submit reports on a variety of topics, including: improvement directions for Mokpo Modern History and Culture Space; utilization plans for the auditorium at Mokpo Yudal Elementary School; and the value of maritime heritage and its potential for content development.
Since last year, the School of Humanities Content at National Mokpo University has been operating as a single school by integrating the three majors, guaranteeing students the autonomy to choose their major after exploring them during their first year. This field experience is being recognized not only for enhancing students' understanding of their majors, but also as an exemplary case of practical humanities education linked to the local community.
