Daily Life Laws in Four Languages Illustrated with Infographics

One-Page Infographics on Essential Laws
Available in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai

The Ministry of Government Legislation will begin distributing infographics containing essential laws for daily life in Korea in foreign languages starting April 28, in order to help approximately 2.6 million foreign residents in the country better understand these regulations. The infographics will first be provided in four languages?English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai?each with more than 100,000 foreign residents living in Korea.

'Four Major Social Insurances' Infographic Provided First

The first infographics produced focus on labor-related topics, particularly the 'Four Major Social Insurances,' which are of great interest to foreign residents. These infographics summarize the main benefits, eligibility requirements, and exclusions for the National Pension, National Health Insurance, Employment Insurance, and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance, allowing users to quickly grasp the key points at a glance. Through these materials, foreigners can easily determine whether they are eligible for insurance coverage without having to consult complex legal texts. At the bottom of the infographic, practical guidance is included, such as "No need for foreign workers to sign up themselves" and "The employer directly applies for insurance," so that the information can be immediately applied in daily life.

The Ministry of Government Legislation has previously provided information on daily life laws for foreigners in the form of card news with up to 10 slides. While card news divides information across multiple slides, the infographic format consolidates the core content into a single image. The use of icons and other visual elements to intuitively convey the main points of relevant laws is also a distinguishing feature. A representative from the Ministry explained the background for creating these infographics, stating, "Some foreign residents, such as marriage immigrants, still struggle with the Korean language, making even searching difficult. The use of complex legal terminology also makes it hard to understand the content, so we decided to enhance our visual content."

In April, infographics will be provided on topics such as the Four Major Social Insurances, basic livelihood security, and employment for foreign workers. In May, an additional infographic on wage arrears relief will be released, completing a total of four content pieces related to 'foreign worker employment.'

High Demand for Various Legal Information Beyond Visas

Among foreigners residing in Korea, there is strong demand for a wide range of legal information needed for daily life, not just about acquiring nationality or visas. According to feedback gathered at the 'Foreign Language Daily Life Law Expert Advisory Meeting' in July 2024 and a 'Field Meeting' attended by immigrants in March 2025, there were many requests for practical information on topics such as employment, entrepreneurship, and remedies for crime victims.

In response, the Ministry of Government Legislation is also working to develop content to help foreign residents cope with potential damages they may encounter while living in Korea. In the second half of the year, the ministry plans to provide additional infographics on a variety of topics, including: ▲prevention of financial scams (voice phishing), ▲support for victims of assault and other crimes, ▲restaurant start-ups, ▲franchise (franchise agreements), ▲trade systems (import), and ▲quarantine for imports and exports. In 2025, the ministry aims to produce a total of 40 content pieces on 10 topics in four languages, with plans to expand to 10 languages in the future.

A ministry official stated, "There is growing interest and support from foreign residents who regularly use the 'Easy-to-Find Daily Life Law Information Service,' as we continue to add new service languages such as Spanish and French, develop new content on topics like international marriage administrative procedures, and respond to requests for academic information such as comparative law." The official added, "Going forward, we plan to continuously identify and develop new content on everyday topics of interest to foreigners, such as civil litigation, crime remedies, entrepreneurship, and tax benefits."

The infographics can be found on the main banner of the Ministry of Government Legislation's 'Easy-to-Find Daily Life Law Information Foreign Language Site.' Clicking the banner will take users to the relevant page for more detailed information.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Justice's Immigration Service, as of February 2025, there were 2,595,953 foreign residents in Korea, accounting for more than 5% of the country's total population.
