Award Ceremony to Be Held on May 2
Seogu District in Gwangju has selected three recipients for the 31st Seogu Citizen Award, honoring individuals who have dedicated themselves to the community in the fields of social service, city beautification, and regional economy.
According to Seogu on April 28, the Seogu Citizen Award is the highest honor given to distinguished residents who have contributed to community unity and the development of the district. The recipients are: Cheolhong Park (67) in the Social Service category, Hoonjung Kim (50) in the City Beautification category, and Mijin Lee (60) in the Regional Economy category.
Cheolhong Park, recipient in the Social Service category, is the chairman of Goldclass Co., Ltd. He was the first member of 'Seogu Honors,' a group of major donors established to realize a benevolent city, and also serves as the chairman of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea. Park has set an example of noblesse oblige by supporting self-reliance education and scholarships for the underprivileged, providing vehicles to social welfare facilities, and offering dental care to foreign workers and multicultural families, among other philanthropic activities.
Hoonjung Kim, recipient in the City Beautification category, is the head of the volunteer camp in Kumho 1-dong. Over the past decade, he has donated more than 100 million won to organizations such as the Village Welfare Foundation, local children's centers, and ChildFund Korea. In particular, he has actively participated in village environment improvement projects, striving to realize "true resident autonomy" by encouraging residents to take the initiative in beautifying their own community.
Mijin Lee, recipient in the Regional Economy category, is the CEO of Daemyung Elevator Co., Ltd., the head of the Gwangju branch of the Korean Women Entrepreneurs Association, and a member of Seogu Honors. Lee has worked to improve the business environment and networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs, has volunteered at social welfare facilities, supported public-private partnership projects, and donated 50 million won to vulnerable groups, taking the lead in fostering a warm and inclusive community.
Kim Ikang, head of Seogu District, stated, "I sincerely thank the recipients for their dedication to the development of Seogu," and added, "Together with Seogu residents, I will do my utmost to create a benevolent Seogu filled with warm sharing and happiness."
The award ceremony will be held at the '31st Seogu Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony' at Deulbul Hall in Seogu District Office on May 2. Since 1994, Seogu has presented the Seogu Citizen Award to a total of 80 individuals and 13 organizations over the past 30 years.
