A total of 56 individuals were recognized for their contributions to the revitalization of the Saemaeul Undong movement.
The awardees have devoted themselves to the development of their local communities, based on the Saemaeul spirit of diligence, self-help, and cooperation.
President Yang Jaewon stated, "Since the inception of the Saemaeul Undong movement, the Saemaeul family has consistently devoted themselves to serving the development of the region. Moving forward, we will continue to take the lead in creating a vibrant Jeonnam that keeps pace with the rapidly changing times."
Governor Kim Youngrok emphasized, "For the past 55 years, the Saemaeul Undong movement, rooted in the spirit of 'Let’s live well,' has served as a driving force behind the development of both Korea and Jeonnam. I am always grateful for the dedication and hard work of the Saemaeul family, who are a strong pillar of the local community, and I will actively support the continued succession and development of the Saemaeul Undong movement."
The Jeonnam Saemaeul Association is engaged in a variety of community contribution activities, including the Clean Jeonnam Movement, promoting excellent agricultural products from Jeonnam, carbon neutrality initiatives, exchanges between Yeongnam and Honam regions, and disaster relief activities. Jeollanamdo also plans to actively support Saemaeul projects to revitalize the local economy in the future.
Saemaeul Day was established as a national holiday in 2011 to commemorate the proclamation of the Saemaeul Undong movement on April 22, 1970, and this year marks the 15th anniversary.
