Cho Myeongrae Participates as the Chief Officiant
On April 28, the Changwon Metropolitan City in South Gyeongsang Province held the 480th Anniversary Ceremony of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Birth at a special altar set up at Bukwon Rotary in Jinhae.
This event was hosted by the Yi Sun-sin Memorial Naval Festival Committee and was organized to honor the noble spirit of loyalty and patriotism of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and to reflect on his patriotic legacy.
The ceremony was divided into two parts: the first part featured a celebratory performance, and the second part was the ritual ceremony. During the celebratory performance, the Jinhae Naval Base Command's traditional Korean music band and local cultural and artistic organizations performed traditional Korean music and the Taepyeongmu dance, drawing many citizens to the event.
In the subsequent ritual ceremony, key members of the Yi Sun-sin Memorial Naval Festival Committee and prominent local figures participated. Cho Myeongrae, the Second Vice Mayor of Changwon Metropolitan City, served as the chief officiant, offering the first ritual cup. As chief officiant, Cho represented the region in paying tribute to Admiral Yi's spirit of patriotism.
Cho Myeongrae, the Second Vice Mayor, stated, "Admiral Yi Sun-sin's leadership in defending the nation during times of crisis continues to offer important lessons today," and added, "I hope this ceremony will serve as an opportunity to reflect on Admiral Yi's spirit and to promote unity within the local community."
The Yi Sun-sin Memorial Naval Festival Committee hosts the Admiral Yi Sun-sin Birth Anniversary Ceremony every year on April 28 of the lunar calendar, commemorating Admiral Yi's birthday at Bukwon Rotary in Jinhae-gu.
