On April 28, the Daegu Metropolitan Government signed an investment agreement with MegaGen Implant Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Kwangbeom), the second-largest dental implant company in Korea by sales, for the construction of a "Digital Center" at the Daegu City Hall Sangyeok Office.
MegaGen Implant is a mid-sized medical device company headquartered in Daegu, exporting implants and dental medical equipment to more than 100 countries worldwide, including Europe and the United States.
After achieving $10 million in exports in 2011, the company has continued its rapid growth, reaching $200 million in exports in 2024.
Through this investment agreement, MegaGen will invest approximately KRW 10.7 billion to build a "Digital Center" on a 3,815-square-meter (1,156-pyeong) site within the Seongseo 5th Industrial Complex.
The center will serve as a bridgehead for securing a leading position in the digital dentistry market by integrating advanced technologies such as the manufacturing of customized implants and orthodontic devices using 3D printing and scanners, as well as surgical navigation systems utilizing augmented reality (AR).
This investment is expected to create about 60 new jobs, and the Digital Center will begin construction in June this year and commence operations in December.
South Korea is the world's second-largest exporter of dental implants, and K-Implant is recognized for its high level of technology and quality in the global market.
As of the end of 2024, the export value of dental implants reached $877 million, with Daegu-based companies, including MegaGen, playing a significant role in this achievement.
In particular, among the top 10 domestic dental implant manufacturers, three companies are headquartered in Daegu, all of which are experiencing rapid growth. These three companies are MegaGen Implant Co., Ltd., Dentis Co., Ltd., and Snucone Co., Ltd.
Park Kwangbeom, CEO of MegaGen Implant, stated, "Recently, various digital technologies are being utilized in the dental medical field and are being widely applied to implant procedures. We decided to establish the Digital Center to secure digital technology competitiveness within the industry, and we will continue to invest to establish ourselves as a global technology leader."
Kim Jeonggi, Acting Mayor and Administrative Vice Mayor of Daegu, said, "We are deeply grateful to MegaGen Implant, a leading K-Implant company and a flagship mid-sized enterprise of Daegu, for making an additional investment in the region following 2022. We will provide one-stop support for the swift completion of the new plant and spare no effort in supporting and encouraging the company's leap toward becoming a global innovation enterprise."
