Golden Bell Event to Be Held at Seoul Museum of Craft on June 14
Targeting 1,000 Elementary Students in Grades 3 to 6
Kyobo Bookstore announced on April 28 that it will collaborate with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to host the "Gather! Reading Golden Bell" event at the Seoul Museum of Craft Courtyard on June 14.
This event is designed to help elementary school students develop reading habits and stimulate their interest in books. It targets a total of 1,000 children, either currently enrolled in grades 3 to 6 at elementary schools in Seoul or of the same age group. The preliminary round will be held in two groups: grades 3-4 and grades 5-6, with 500 participants in each group, totaling 1,000. Of these, 600 will advance to the finals.
Among the finalists, six participants from each group will receive the Kyobo Bookstore President’s Award and the Seoul Metropolitan Superintendent of Education Award, along with a prize of 200,000 won in reading support funds. If the final participant successfully solves the Golden Bell question, an additional 300,000 won in reading support funds will be awarded.
This year’s event will feature a magic school theme. All participants will receive special items, and the event aims to offer the joy of reading, mingling, and communicating together.
The recommended book list for the Reading Golden Bell was selected by a committee consisting of 56 librarians and teachers and 100 publishers, who chose a total of 14 books. These books, covering a wide range of topics including literature, science, history, and society, will continue to be introduced at Kyobo Bookstore and libraries under the Seoul Office of Education.
The event will also feature programs for all age groups. The "Gyub Quiz?!" relay quiz event is a 20-day challenge featuring quizzes on books, literacy, and nonsense questions, with daily prizes. In addition, there will be quiz events based on the Reading Golden Bell recommended books, collaborative content with the YouTube ODG channel, and various SNS events.
A Kyobo Bookstore representative stated, "Reading is not simply an act of acquiring information, but an important cultural experience that guides the direction of life," adding, "We will continue our reading campaigns so that children can feel closer to books through quizzes and discover the joy of reading."
