On April 28, the police announced that they had received a request for investigation from SK Telecom on April 22 regarding the leak of SK Telecom USIM information, on suspicion of violating the Information and Communications Network Act. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit is currently conducting the investigation.
At a regular press briefing that day, a police official stated, "At this time, the hacking group responsible has not yet been identified."
On April 18, SK Telecom discovered signs that some information related to users' USIMs had been leaked due to malware installed by a hacker. The leaked data reportedly includes unique identification numbers used to identify each subscriber's USIM.
Initially, SK Telecom recommended that users subscribe to the USIM protection service, but as user concerns grew, the company decided to offer free USIM replacements.
