A cultural complex with an ocean view of Seongsan Ilchulbong
Renovated from the former restaurant to 'Floist'
Official opening from May 1
Phoenix Hotel & Resort announced on April 28 that the iconic Glass House of Phoenix Island, located in Seopjikoji, Seogwipo, Jeju, has been newly renovated as the bakery cafe 'Floist.'
The Glass House was designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando and is characterized by a long, box-shaped glass structure set at a 90-degree angle atop exposed concrete. Its restrained aesthetics and harmony with nature, including the view of Seongsan Ilchulbong, have made it popular among both domestic and international tourists.
Phoenix Island has renovated the 'Mint Restaurant,' which previously operated on the second floor of the Glass House, into a bakery cafe that will officially open on May 1. The brand name 'Floist' is a compound word combining 'Flour' and 'Yeast' with 'East,' encapsulating its location at the eastern tip of Seopjikoji in Jeju.
Floist's distinguishing feature is its wide-open ocean view directly facing Seongsan Ilchulbong. The logo design also visually represents Jeju's natural beauty and identity by depicting the outer silhouette of Seongsan Ilchulbong.
The cafe offers more than 80 menu items, including 47 types of bakery items, 28 types of beverages, and 9 types of Western cuisine. The signature menu item is the 'Yuja Pound Cake,' inspired by Seongsan Ilchulbong.
Son Jangho, General Manager of Phoenix Island, said, "The Glass House, a symbolic space of Phoenix Island, has been reborn as a new cultural complex that combines the taste and sensibility of Jeju. We hope it will become a representative cultural landmark of Jeju in the future."
